U9: Adaptations for Survival

Key Learning Points:

  • Adaptations refer to the special characteristics or features that helps an organism to survive in its natural habitat.

  • By survival, we mean the organism is able to (1) find food, air and water, (2) escape from predators, (3) cope with the environment conditions, (4) reproduce.

  • There are many kinds of adaptations such as adaptations for (1) movement, (2) breathing in water, (3) protection, (4) obtaining sunlight for plants, (5) coping with the environment (temperature and light), (6) reproduction.

  • Do be familiar with the different examples for each kind of adaptation and be able to explain how it helps the organism to survive.

  • Do be able to classify the various examples into either structural adaptations (body parts) or behavioural adaptations (behaviours and reactions)
